Deb Tuckerman, manager of growth, economic development and tourism, says economic development reports help define general economic indicators for the region.

“The report showed that a total of $9.4 million was spent in one day in April, with a total of $324 million spent by area residents during the months of April and May. .

“In April and May, over $10,000 was loaded onto Shop MidCoast cards and $15,000 was redeemed on the cards,” Ms. Tuckerman said.

The MidCoast LGA unemployment rate fell from 7.4% in June 2021 to 4.1% in March 2022, now falling below the NSW average of 4.6%.

Ms Tuckerman says a number of business events were held, which resulted in $50,000 being donated to community events held from April to June.

In addition, a ComeVisit! A program was also launched in June to encourage residents to invite friends and family to visit, to support the economy outside of the original tourist periods.

“The report builds on the quarterly reports previously provided on the successful delivery of Destination Barrington Coast and recognizes that tourism is just one of the ways in which the Council supports economic growth,” Ms Tuckerman said.
