CPEC projects promoting green development, economic growth: Habib
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib, said Chinese-funded companies operating in Pakistan are strongly committed to corporate social responsibility.
Chinese-funded companies, including those working on projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), are playing a very responsible role in bringing sustainable social, environmental and economic benefits to the well-being of the people. “Projects under CPEC promote the country’s green development…Advanced infrastructure and energy projects give impetus to Pakistan’s economic growth,” the state minister told Xinhua, adding that the speedy completion of CPEC projects is the first priority of the Pakistani government.
On this occasion, the National Environment and Health Forum also awarded prizes related to corporate social responsibility to dozens of companies, including several Chinese-funded enterprises.
Li Hui, chief representative of China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. in Pakistan, which is a subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China which invested in and constructed the Matiari-Lahore high-voltage direct current transmission project under the CPEC, said Xinhua that obtaining awards related to responsibility Corporate Social Responsibility highlighted the recognition the project has received.
The transmission project has been devoted to corporate social responsibility and donated a large amount of rice and flour to the locals and helped the people of Pakistan to fight against COVID-19 through the supply of masks and drugs, he said, adding that the project has also planted more than 50,000 trees in eastern Punjab province over the past year to protect the environment.
“Our project will do more in terms of corporate social responsibility in the future to bring more tangible benefits to people and strengthen the special friendship between China and Pakistan,” he added.
