Executive Forum continues with Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson

MACON – Mercer University Executive forumpresented by Truist, continues its 42nd year on March 16 with a presentation by Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Commissioner Pat Wilson in Macon.

Wilson will present at noon in the Presidents Dining Room at the University Center on the Macon campus.

Wilson, appointed commissioner of the GDEcD in November 2016, leads the state agency responsible for creating jobs and investment opportunities in Georgia through recruitment and business expansion, small business growth, international trade and tourism, as well as the arts, film and music industries.

Under Governors Brian P. Kemp and Wilson, Georgia was named the nation’s No. 1 state in which to do business for the eighth consecutive year by site selection and area development. The GDEcD was also ranked as the best state-level economic development organization by the International Economic Development Council in 2017.

Wilson previously served as chief operating officer of GDEcD from January 2011 until his appointment as commissioner by former Governor Nathan Deal. Additionally, Wilson served as executive director of the Georgia Allies.

Wilson joined GDEcD as Deputy Commissioner for Global Trade in 2010. Previously, he served on former Governor Sonny Perdue’s staff as Director of Government Affairs, promoting the Governor’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill. the state and administering the federal affairs of the state.

The Executive Forum was founded in 1979 as the business outreach program of Mercer and its School of Business and quickly became an invaluable resource for the business community and professionals throughout Georgia through the presentation of seminars from high-quality management and leadership on topical issues.

Mercer alumnus William H. Anderson II, then-president Dr. R. Kirby Godsey, and the business school’s founding dean, Dr. Charles H. Andrews, worked with the Bureau academic advancement to plan, develop and implement the Forum in order to establish a closer relationship with the business community.

For more than four decades of the Executive Forum, countless students and faculty have benefited from exposure to practitioners and, in turn, Forum members have benefited from a relationship with academia. These benefits include business networking opportunities, employee development skills, and knowledge of current business trends.
