Mike Vlacich, currently senior adviser to U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen and former director of the New Hampshire Economic Development Division, has been appointed by President Biden as administrator for the New England region of the US Small Business Administration.

This is the first time that a Granite Stater has been appointed to head the Boston office.

Vlacich has a long history of working with Shaheen, both when she was governor and during his tenure in the Senate. He was also director of state for US Senator Maggie Hassan. He headed the Economic Development Division under Governor John Lynch, for whom he also worked as Deputy Chief of Staff. And from June 2017 to 2019, he was CEO of New Hampshire College and University Council.

As a Region I administrator, Vlacich will oversee SBA programs, offices and operations in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont.

In announcing Vlacich’s appointment, SBA administrator Casillas Guzman said he called him “a talented leader ready to go… as we turn the page on this pandemic.”
