Lagos State Government Assigns Advice on Resilience and Economic Growth | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Lagos State government has tasked local council presidents with the need to imbibe a culture of resilience by anticipating, mitigating and responding to the daily challenges communities face.

State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Sam Egube said this yesterday during the “Resilience Awareness Workshop organized by the Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) for leaders of the 57 local councils / local council development areas, held in Raddison Blu, Ikeja.

According to him, the development of the Lagos resilience strategy has become imperative due to the need to prepare the state for the challenges associated with rapid urbanization and exponential population growth, with a view to transforming these challenges into more great opportunities for a better quality of life for the population and ensuring a judicious use of scarce government resources.

For her part, Deputy Director of Resilience, Dr Folayinka Dania, said the state has the capacity to develop its economy through technology with the support of young people who get or create jobs in all fields.

She added that there was a need to capitalize on the state’s youthful population by improving access to ICT education and ICT-based entrepreneurial activities throughout the state.

“Overall, these initiatives will support livelihoods and employment, foster economic prosperity, and lead to the creation of investors and tech entrepreneurs.

“The initiative involves expanding the CODE Lagos program to fuel the development of a technology-based business service sector for the state. This will be achieved through the design of an improved model for the current program to ensure that the program is fit for purpose and reaches a wider population in the city, especially the vulnerable and underserved.

“A post-training system will also be integrated. This expansion will require a significant fundraising to secure space in underserved areas and procure equipment and other resources. ”
