Mecklenburg County Office of Economic Development Announces New Financial Independence Group Headquarters

Mecklenburg County economic development officials today announced that the Financial Independence Group, LLC (FIG) will build a state-of-the-art corporate campus in the town of Cornelius in northern Mecklenburg County. FIG, a leading financial services conglomerate, will move from its current Cornelius headquarters, near the corner of West Catawba Avenue and Jetton Road, to a five-acre site at 8715 Westmoreland Rd. The new campus will house Financial Independence Group and three of its affiliates: Alphastar Capital Management, Barnabas Capital and Independent Property and Casualty Group.

Mecklenburg County and the City of Cornelius are supporting the company’s $22.3 million investment through a Business Investment Program grant. The project will create 20 additional jobs at Cornelius over the next five years.

“We are thrilled with the continued investment FIG is making in Mecklenburg County by providing employment opportunities for our residents,” said George Dunlap, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. “As a county, we have worked to build and grow a renowned financial services sector that continues to attract regional and national investment to our community. FIG plays a key role in expanding our efforts to provide these opportunities job.”

Co-founders Bill and Ericka Cain, along with partners Jim Cooper, Mike Mullan and Brian Williams embrace community building as a core company belief and for that reason, it made sense to move forward with the company. expanding the business and building a new campus, as well as expanding their outreach efforts in northern Mecklenburg County. Construction of the facility is expected to start in late 2022 or early 2023 and is expected to be completed by November 2023.
