Governor Reeves announces that Mississippi has again been recognized by Area Development magazine.

Mississippi was again recognized by Area Development magazine with a Silver Shovel Award.

The award recognizes Mississippi’s economic development successes in 2021 and the state’s ongoing efforts to foster new business investment while creating an economic environment conducive to growth.

“Mississippi is committed to competing on all fronts for new business investment. We want to make our state the best in the country to live, work and start a business. This award is validation of our continued work to that end,” Governor Tate Reeves said. “I want to especially commend the Mississippi Development Authority, economic developers across the state, and the wide range of private partners who have recognized Mississippi’s economic value and chosen to invest in our state.”

The Shovel Awards are given to state economic development agencies that create significant numbers of jobs through innovative policies, infrastructure improvements, processes and promotions that attract new employers and investments in new and enlarged.

Mississippi won a Silver Shovel in the “less than 3 million population” category, based on certain criteria. All 50 states were invited to submit their top 10 job creation and investment projects.

Mississippi’s top project in 2021 was Milwaukee Tool’s new accessory manufacturing facility in Grenada County, which is creating 1,200 jobs, 800 of which will be located in Grenada and the remaining 400 will be added to the company’s other locations. company in Mississippi.
