RI Economic Growth Corp. will present updated plans for the development of rental housing in Quebec

After a successful awareness campaign organized in October, Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation (GROWTH) will host a community outreach on Tuesday, February 8and on the Northside Lofts redevelopment effort in downtown Aledo, Illinois.

Residents, businesses, community organizations and local authorities are welcome. GROWTH representatives will provide final floor and site plans and discuss planned amenities and energy saving features. These revisions are largely based on initial community input generated by a meeting on Oct. 21, 2021, according to a statement on Monday. Then people learned about GROWTH’s original plans for the old Aledo High School.

The February 8 meeting will be held at the lower level of the VFW, 106 SW 3rd Avenue, Aledo, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The total cost of the Aledo project exceeds $11 million.

Since October, GROWTH has successfully secured a redevelopment agreement with the City of Aledo and is working to submit its funding application to the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). If funded, the project will result in the creation of 30 safe, quality rental housing units for the workforce to expand the residential base in historic downtown Aledo, according to Monday’s release.

New GROWTH Vice President Charlotte Flickinger oversees the Northside Lofts project.

GROWTH has also hired a new Vice President, Charlotte Flickinger, who leads the organization’s development efforts. She began her role with GROWTH on January 18 and is focused on leading Northside Lofts redevelopment efforts. She looks forward to introducing herself to the community and sharing updates to the redevelopment plan.

“GROWTH appreciates the welcome it has received from the Aledo community,” Flickinger said in the statement. “As a community development organization, we pay attention to what community members are looking for in terms of redevelopment. We were careful to ask for feedback and incorporated these elements into our revitalization strategy for Northside Lofts.

“The work we do has an impact that strengthens communities and creates opportunity for all,” she said. “We look forward to sharing our redevelopment updates with the Aledo community at the next outreach.”

Light refreshments will be served and all are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held in accordance with national and local COVID guidelines.

RSVPs are not required. If you can’t attend a community contribution meeting, they still want to hear from you, at 309-794-6711. After February 8, an updated Northside Lofts redevelopment plan will be put on this GROWTH website.
