Tiffin is experiencing new economic growth

TIFFIN, Ohio (WTVG) – More and more economic development is happening throughout the region and now a big new project is in the works for Tiffin.

A 5th specification building is currently under construction as companies immediately seek usable space. Companies need space and they don’t want to wait for it.

Enter Tiffin trying to prepare for both conditions. They create a blank canvas.

“We don’t necessarily appear on the radar of some of these big manufacturers that could be national or even global events,” Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said.

Tiffin is working on its 5th specification building completed through a grant program. There is already interest because nowadays companies need space quickly and do not have to fight through years of bureaucracy.

“You don’t try to get land and negotiate contracts. The land is secure and the construction is turnkey,” Montz said.

Some of the city’s old special buildings now have tenants, and the Eagle Rock Industrial Park is quickly filling up. This leads to jobs and growth throughout Tiffin and Seneca County. Mayor Montz said recently that the county is at a record three percent unemployment rate, making it difficult to find employees and people with the right skills.

As with all communities in Ohio and across the country, housing is also tricky and there is a lot of demand. For Tiffin, construction costs are rising, making rural areas less attractive to develop.

“Rising inflation in building materials has put the construction of many new homes in an area like Tiffin or these more rural areas almost beyond the reach of developers,” Montz said.
